You can download free pdf copies of U.S. patents and published applications using either Google Patents or the PTO's patent search system (PatFT and AppFT). 

Google Patents is easier to use, but the PTO system is updated sooner. If you need a patent or application that was published in the last month or so, use the PTO system. Otherwise use Google Patents. Click below for instructions:
